A woman was found dead inside her home in the commune of Loncoche on Monday, triggering an investigation by the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Investigaciones Police that ended with an unexpected conclusion: among those detained for the crime is the victim's own daughter.
The victim, identified as Ingrid Barrera Rantul, 53 years old, was found in the living room of her residence with multiple injuries caused by a sharp weapon. The discovery of the body occurred following a call to Carabineros made by the woman's daughter and the daughter's boyfriend, who reported having noticed bloodstains in the property.
During the course of the investigation, detectives detected contradictions in the statements of people close to the family environment. These inconsistencies directed the inquiries towards three 17-year-old adolescents: the victim's daughter, her boyfriend and a schoolmate of the young woman.
The Public Prosecutor's Office is working on the hypothesis that the adolescent and her partner raised funds with the aim of paying the third defendant to carry out the murder of her mother. Investigators are also analysing the possibility that there was some promise of payment or delivery of money in exchange for committing the homicide.
Following their detention, the three minors were placed under judicial custody to be submitted to a detention hearing and subsequent formal charges. At that stage, the Public Prosecutor's Office will present the evidence gathered so far to clarify the motives and exact dynamic of the crime.
The incident has generated shock in the Loncoche community, located in the Araucanía Region, due to the nature of the relationship between one of the accused and the deceased. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek to establish with precision the roles played by each of the detained individuals in the planning and execution of the homicide.
