In the early hours of Monday, authorities in Ñuble confirmed the death of a 24-year-old foreign national in circumstances pointing to an execution. The body was discovered beside his vehicle on Camino a Cato, a high-end residential area in the Chillán municipality.
According to initial evidence gathered by detectives from the Police Investigations Service's Homicide Squad, the young man was apparently approached by unknown individuals who shot him, causing his death at the scene. The Public Prosecutor's Office ordered complete confidentiality in the case, so operational details remain under seal.
The regional government representative, Diego Sepúlveda, confirmed the victim's Colombian origin and age. He also declined to provide further information due to the early stage of the investigation. The body was sent to the Legal Medical Service for standard examinations.
Among the lines of inquiry being pursued by detectives, a connection to illicit activities such as drug trafficking or debt collection through informal loans is not ruled out. This hypothesis has led authorities to consider that the incident could be linked to organised crime methods.
The mayor of Chillán, Camilo Benavente, expressed alarm at the violence deployed in one of the most developed areas of the municipality, near the Agricultural School. Local media noted that a short distance from the crime scene there is a property linked to the Security Minister, Martín Arrau.
The Homicide Squad is continuing with procedures to clarify the motives for the crime and identify those responsible for the homicide.
