Driver hits six people at Viña del Mar fair in Chile
A car struck a crowd at the Feria Caupolicán in Viña del Mar on Sunday 12 July, causing the death of at least six people. Seven other individuals were hit and injured during the incident, according to Chilean police cited by ERT News.
The authorities indicated that the man lost control of his vehicle inside the fairground in the coastal city. Preliminary accounts suggested that the suspect was driving at excessive speed on a road adjacent to the event venue.
Following the incident, officers apprehended the driver. It is expected that he will be given a test to determine whether he had consumed alcohol before driving.
The case has caused distress in the South American country, where summer fairs typically draw thousands of visitors.
