A serious traffic accident occurred on Friday in the centre of the capital, where a woman was ejected from the vehicle in which she was travelling and is currently in critical condition.
The Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed that the person responsible for the incident is a Carabineros de Chile officer who was driving one of the vehicles involved. Prosecutor Felipe Olivari stated that the officer failed to respect the red traffic signal at the intersection of Tarapacá with San Francisco.
The police officer not only failed to assist the injured, but also left the scene of the accident accompanied by four other people, which aggravates his procedural position.
Furthermore, the prosecutor specified that the police driver showed signs of alcohol intoxication at the time of the accident. He is already in custody and will be brought before the courts in the course of this Friday for a detention review.
