Man arrested for threats against US ambassador in Santiago
Agents from Chile's Criminal Investigation Police raided the residence of a subject in the Lo Barnechea district and arrested him for allegedly sending intimidatory messages to the United States diplomatic representative in the country, Brandon Judd.
During the house search, detectives found a blank-firing weapon and an electronic device that, according to authorities, would be linked to the threatening communications directed at the ambassador. The United States embassy itself had filed the corresponding complaint with Chilean authorities over these acts of intimidation.
The defendant, whose identity was confirmed as Mauricio Castillo, is to appear this Thursday before the courts in a charge formalisation hearing, where the Public Ministry will present the investigation findings.
The case was initially reported by Cooperativa.
