Gunfire from motorcycles kills two people in central Santiago
A shooting on Avenida 10 de Julio with San Francisco left two people dead in the centre of Santiago, according to biobiochile.cl. The shots were fired by two individuals travelling on motorcycles who opened fire on the occupants of a black car.
According to reports, the bullets struck the driver and passenger of the vehicle. The impact caused the car to crash into a commercial premises; the doors were left open and the airbags deployed from the impact.
Witnesses at the scene described how the two men on motorcycles fired a series of bursts before fleeing. One of the vehicle's occupants died inside the car. The second, despite assistance provided by bystanders, died outside the vehicle as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.
Carabineros carried out initial procedures at the scene. By order of the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Homicide Brigade (BH) of the PDI took charge of investigations to clarify the circumstances of the double homicide. Police officers remained deployed in the sector whilst forensic examinations continued at the scene pending further evidence.
