Two people died this evening in central Santiago after being shot whilst inside a vehicle, according to latercera.com. The incident occurred at the intersection of July 10th and San Francisco streets, in the central commune.
Witnesses at the scene reported hearing bursts of gunfire in the vicinity. Carabineros became aware of the incident at 21:34 hours.
According to preliminary information, four people travelling on two motorcycles are believed to have fired the shots. The injuries sustained by the vehicle's occupants were so severe that the car crashed into a commercial premises.
Personnel from the Emergency Medical Attention Service (SAMU) attended the scene and confirmed the deaths of both victims inside the vehicle.
Carabineros cordoned off the area and carried out initial proceedings. The Public Prosecutor's Office determined that the investigation would be handled by the Investigation Police (PDI), in coordination with the Organised Crime and Homicides Unit (ECOH) of the Prosecutor's Office.
