Chile's Public Ministry, through its specialised units SAC and ECOH, initiated judicial proceedings against two individuals from Colombia. They were handed over by the authorities of that country and now face charges for their alleged involvement in the killing of a football supporter that occurred in the centre-north region of the country.
The violent incident took place in April of last year on Alberto Solari Avenue, in the heart of La Serena. The prosecutor in charge of the case, Nicolás Nicoreanu, clarified that several nationals from the homes of the accused individuals became involved in a violent brawl that resulted in the death of one of them.
Following the commission of the crime, the two men fled Chilean territory. Agents from the Police of Investigation were able to locate them in Bogotá, from where they were repatriated after a procedure coordinated between the Guarantee Court and the Court of Appeals in La Serena.
During the respective hearing, the court ordered the precautionary measure of detention for both individuals. The decision was based on the risk they would represent for the community if released.
The prosecution has a set of evidence that strengthens the investigative thesis. Among these items are testimonies from those who witnessed the facts, audiovisual records provided by a shopping centre near the crime scene, and statements of partial recognition obtained during police interrogations. The deceased person was accompanied by an acquaintance at the time of the attack.
The deadline for concluding the investigation was set at seventy days.
