Two young women were taken into police custody at Santiago Airport after attempting to board a flight to Spain using tickets paid for with a stolen bank account.
The arrest took place in the early hours of Thursday when officers from the Police Investigation Section of the 55th Pudahuel Precinct intercepted the suspects in the passenger terminal.
The inquiry began a day earlier when an individual came forward to report suspicious transactions on his line of credit. Upon reviewing the movements, he discovered that someone had used his financial instrument to purchase tickets bound for Madrid.
Armed with this information, detectives traced the reservations and determined that the beneficiaries of the service were two women aged 25 and 26, who were scheduled to leave the country that same night. Consequently, surveillance was arranged at the airport.
Airline staff collaborated with law enforcement to locate the suspects in the immigration control area. They were intercepted before they could board the aircraft.
Currently, both remain under the jurisdiction of the courts. Investigations are continuing to determine whether the fraud scheme has additional victims.
