Two Colombian nationals were handed over to Chilean authorities after remaining in Bogotá, to answer for the murder of a football supporter that occurred last year in La Serena. The formalisation hearing took place before the local court, where the Public Prosecutor's Office presented the background of the case.
The incident dates back to April 2024, when a confrontation broke out on Alberto Solari road between several nationals of the victim. The argument escalated and resulted in the death of one of the participants, also from the South American country.
The prosecutor from the Organised Crime and Homicide Team, Nicolás Nicoreanu, explained that detectives from the Coquimbo SAC managed to identify the two alleged perpetrators, who subsequently fled national territory. They were found in the Colombian capital, where the extradition mechanism was activated through the Guarantee Court and the La Serena Court of Appeals.
After the process was completed before the administrative authority, both individuals were transferred to Chile. During the hearing, the judge ordered their provisional detention, arguing that they posed a threat to the community.
The investigative file includes statements from those who witnessed the events, audiovisual records provided by the shopping centre near the crime scene, and statements from companions of the deceased person. In addition, the accused were partially identified during statements made to detectives.
The deadline to conclude the proceedings was set at seventy days.
