A new violent death was recorded on Wednesday night in the Metropolitan Region, when a man died following an assault with a bladed weapon on public roads, according to reporting by the outlet BioBioChile.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Alameda and Padre Hurtado, in the Estación Central municipality. Two men engaged in a heated argument that escalated into physical violence. One of them moved away momentarily from the site of the confrontation and returned armed with a knife, with which he seriously wounded his opponent in the right leg.

The injured person was rushed to a healthcare facility in the same municipality, specifically the Mutual de Seguridad. Medical staff attempted to stabilise him, but the injuries proved incompatible with life and he died at the medical centre.

Inspector Margarita Parra, belonging to the Centro Norte Homicide Brigade, confirmed that it is a homicide under investigation. She also indicated that detectives are analysing images captured by surveillance cameras in the sector to determine precisely how the attack unfolded.

For now, no persons have been detained. Investigators have also been unable to establish whether there was any prior relationship between the perpetrator and the victim, or whether it was a confrontation between strangers.

The case remains open pending new evidence that would allow them to locate the whereabouts of the person responsible.
