On Monday morning, a man in his approximately sixties died as a result of a dispute in a cite in central Santiago. According to reports by Carabineros, the death was caused by wounds to the neck inflicted with a sharp object.
The uniformed police arrived at the scene following a citizen alert call made around 6:30 a.m. At the time of inspection, the officers confirmed that an altercation had culminated in the death of the sixty-year-old man. Shortly afterwards, the capture was made of the alleged perpetrator, a 44-year-old Chilean citizen, at the intersection of Juan Vicuña with Victoria.
Captain Stephan Stewart, from the 4th Police Station of Santiago, clarified that investigations remain in the initial phase, as work continues to confirm the exact identity of the victim. The officer indicated that both the deceased and the detainee would have previous criminal records. "It would appear to be a fight in which (the arrested man) allegedly attacked with a bladed weapon," he specified.
In addition, Stewart confirmed that the building where the incident occurred operated as a cite and that residents of the location were those who alerted the authorities. Currently, investigators are collecting statements, locating possible witnesses and gathering evidence to hand over to the Public Prosecutor's Office.
The incident occurred just 24 hours after another murder by firearm in the same municipality, recorded in the early hours of Sunday on Paseo Puente, between General Mackenna and San Pablo streets. That case was handed over to OS9, Labocar and the ECOH Public Prosecutor's Office.
