Alleged killer arrested over two years after crime on Zenteno Street
According to puranoticia.pnt.cl, Carabineros detained a Peruvian citizen charged with the murder of an Ecuadorian that occurred on the night of 17 March 2024 in central Santiago.
The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds at the intersection of Zenteno Street and Aconcagua, whilst participating in a celebration.
Officers from the uniformed police force were conducting discreet surveillance near the suspect's residence. Upon detecting that he was leaving the building, they proceeded to detain him and seized his mobile telephone.
The investigation was conducted by Carabineros' OS9 unit, at the request of the Organised Crime and Homicides Team Prosecution Office (ECOH). The tracking was supported by security camera footage and telephone geolocation to locate the suspect.
ECOH prosecutor Camila Palma formalised charges against the defendant for simple homicide and illegal possession of a firearm. This Friday, the court ordered his pre-trial detention and set an investigation period of one hundred days.
