Life sentence for "El Chucky" for homicide at Valparaíso pub

The Oral Criminal Court of Valparaíso issued a guilty verdict against Alexis Abraham Ramírez Gutiérrez, known in criminal circles as "El Chucky", for qualified homicide against a 32-year-old man and less serious injuries against a woman, according to puranoticia.pnt.cl.
The facts date back to 28 November 2022 at the Barmasia pub, located on Ecuador hill in the port city. According to Valparaíso prosecutor Greta Fuchslocher, the defendant engaged in a dispute on the terrace of the establishment and returned to the venue carrying a sharp instrument.
After wounding a first victim in the thigh, Ramírez Gutiérrez entered the premises and attacked the fatal victim from behind. Fuchslocher described the sequence: "He acted treacherously, an attack from behind, a stabbing in the cervical area, (…) he threw him to the ground and then, once he was down on the ground, he beat him".
This ruling adds to the record of the convicted man: Ramírez Gutiérrez is already serving a life sentence for the murder of Colo-Colo supporters in Parque Italia. Psychiatric evaluations carried out over six months determined that he suffers from antisocial personality disorder and problematic substance use.
The Public Ministry argued that such conditions do not justify a reduction in sentences, given the lack of remorse displayed by the defendant. "The profile is highly dangerous, the assessments also state this: a total lack of empathy for human suffering," Fuchslocher said, adding that his continued imprisonment is key "to prevent precisely what could happen—other deaths, other brutal assaults with this type of outcome".
The Valparaíso Public Ministry requested a simple life sentence for qualified homicide—which implies a minimum of 20 years in effect before accessing any prison benefit—and 541 additional days for the crime of less serious injuries.
The defence attempted to argue that their client acted in a state of sudden passion or obsession, a mitigating circumstance that the Court categorically rejected.
Following the verdict, the Public Ministry stated that the outcome allows them to provide "this spiritual peace to the family, to at least close the cycle of what it means to go through a long, difficult, complex but necessary process for this result (…) and so that this particular convicted man does not regain his freedom for many more years".
The reading of the final sentence, in which the exact number of years of imprisonment to be imposed on "El Chucky" will be announced, has been set for Wednesday, 12 June.
