Operation beneath El Cortijo bridge yields dozens of confiscated bladed weapons

According to semana.com, military and police authorities discovered an arsenal of bladed weapons hidden beneath mattresses in several shanties installed under the El Cortijo bridge, on Calle 80 in Bogotá.

The operation was coordinated by the Bogotá Security Secretariat together with the Engativá Local Mayor's Office, the UAESP, the Metropolitan Police and the XIII Brigade of the National Army. The intervention responded to multiple reports from residents of the area, who identified the location as a security risk.

Upon entering the site, uniformed officers detained a man from whom narcotics were found. Continuing with the inspection of the installations, they found dozens of knives, machetes, scalpels and scissors concealed among mattresses and in plastic boxes.

The authorities also seized 400 grammes of marijuana. The man transporting them was detained for the offence of trafficking, manufacturing or carrying narcotics.

As a result of the operation, 4.5 tonnes of waste—equivalent to 14 cubic metres—were removed and transported by tipper truck for processing.

The Security Secretariat stated that these interventions aim to reclaim public space and reduce crime rates in areas identified as security risks. The participating entities affirmed that they will continue with this type of operation at different points in the capital.

The authorities invited citizens to report risk situations through official channels, including the emergency line 123.
