24-year-old man arrested in Kennedy over femicide in María Paz neighbourhood
A 24-year-old man was arrested by officers of the National Police in the Kennedy locality of Bogotá after it was confirmed he had an active capture warrant for the suspected femicide of a woman in the María Paz neighbourhood, according to pulzo.com.
The detention took place at Carrera 86 with Calle 1, where agents were conducting background checks and records control using a PDA electronic device. Upon verifying the citizen's details, the authorities found the judicial order and proceeded to transfer him to the Immediate Reaction Unit (URI).
The commander of Kennedy Police Station, Lieutenant Colonel Juan Montilla, explained that the operation was the result of routine activities carried out from the Immediate Attention Centres (CAI). "Once the judicial background was verified, the authorities confirmed the existence of the capture warrant," Montilla said, attributing the arrest to such routine checks.
The warrant was issued in connection with events that occurred on 10 May 2026 in the María Paz neighbourhood. According to official information, the charge corresponds to having thrown a woman from a fourth-floor flat, an action that caused the victim's death due to the severity of the injuries sustained.
Following the verification and identification process at the URI, a judge of the Republic issued a detention measure in a correctional facility against the arrested man.
The National Police reiterated its call to citizens to report any act of violence against women through the Emergency Line 123. The case is part of the 'Bogotá walks safely' strategy, an initiative that seeks to strengthen security conditions for women and encourage citizen participation in reporting gender-based violence.
