Ex-partner arrested for killing elderly couple in Suba, Bogotá

Freddy Alexander Barajas Rivera was arrested on 23 October 2026 and charged with the double homicide of an elderly couple in the Aures neighbourhood, in the locality of Suba, in the north-west of Bogotá. According to pulzo.com, the General Prosecutor's Office is investigating the case on the hypothesis of retaliation motivated by the breakdown of a romantic relationship between the accused and the victims' daughter.

The victims were identified as Guillermo Alberto Anzola, 72, and Gloria Isabel Guerrero, 66. Family members of the couple, alerted by security camera footage from the property that showed an irregular situation, went to the residence on 13 March 2025 accompanied by police officers. Upon entering the home, they found the lifeless bodies of both elderly adults, with multiple wounds caused by a sharp instrument.

During the investigation, officials from the Technical Criminal Investigation Unit (CTI) collected material evidence that made it possible to establish that Barajas Rivera would have been the only person to enter and leave the property in the timeframe in which the homicides were committed.

The Prosecutor's Office stated that Gloria Isabel Guerrero would have been the victim of a greater level of violence, a circumstance that the prosecuting authority associated with possible resentment directed at the female figure, stemming from her ex-partner's decision to end the relationship and begin a new romantic bond. As for Guillermo Alberto Anzola, the investigating authority highlighted that he suffered from an illness and was in conditions of special vulnerability.

After several months of investigation, Barajas Rivera was detained and brought before a prosecutor from the Bogotá Regional Office, who charged him with the offences of aggravated femicide and aggravated homicide. The defendant did not accept the charges. A judge ordered that he remain deprived of liberty in a correctional facility while the judicial process proceeds.

The prosecuting authority's central hypothesis points to the crime having been motivated by resentment that Barajas Rivera experienced following the end of his relationship with the victims' daughter and the beginning of a new romantic bond on her part. The legal process will be what determines the criminal responsibility of the accused.
