Man arrested in Bogotá accused of murdering his pregnant partner
According to semana.com, Colombian authorities sent Luis Fernando Vásquez Moreno to prison after his arrest by judicial order on 19 October in the El Recuerdo sector of Bogotá. A judge in charge of legal guarantees imposed a custodial detention measure against him for his alleged responsibility in the murder of a pregnant woman with whom he maintained a romantic relationship.
The events occurred on 15 March 2026 in the El Tesorito neighbourhood, in the Ciudad Bolívar district. Residents of the area found the victim's body bound at the feet and hands inside an abandoned shopping cart on a pedestrian path, near Parque La Joya. The woman was three months pregnant at the time of her death.
The Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, the Criminal Investigation Section of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police (Sijín) and the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences compiled the evidence that supported the judicial proceedings. "The analysis of security cameras and mobile telephone records made it possible to establish that the accused would have transported the body in a shopping cart," the Office of the Attorney General stated.
The Institute of Legal Medicine documented trauma caused by blows from blunt objects and determined asphyxiation as the cause of death. Forensic examinations also suggested the existence of a prior context of physical and psychological violence within the romantic relationship, with injuries associated with repeated assaults.
During preliminary hearings, a prosecutor from the Bogotá Section charged Vásquez Moreno with the crimes of aggravated femicide, aggravated torture, and concealment, alteration or destruction of material evidence. The accused did not accept the charges.
Lieutenant Colonel Elizabeth Erazo Benavides, garrison officer of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, confirmed that the detainee has three prior entries in the Oral Accusatory Criminal System (SPOA) for the crime of non-consensual carnal access with a minor under 14 years old. The criminal proceedings will continue with the custodial detention measure currently in force.
