Widow of Uribe Turbay accuses Petro of ordering her husband's murder
María Claudia Tarazona identified former president Gustavo Petro as responsible for the killing of her husband, senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, though she clarified this is her personal opinion.

Tarazona identifies Petro in senator Uribe Turbay's murder
María Claudia Tarazona, widow of senator and presidential pre-candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay, identified former president Gustavo Petro as the alleged perpetrator of her husband's murder. According to infobae.com, the statements were made in an interview with La FM and open a new chapter in the investigation into the intellectual authors of the crime.
"In my personal opinion, Gustavo Petro knew they were going to kill Miguel, he gave the order to kill Miguel and he allied himself with the Maduro dictatorship to assassinate him. The day we get to that, I will have peace with my children. I will have peace with Alejandro," Tarazona said during the interview.
The journalist warned her that the president could sue her over her words and asked if she had evidence to support such a grave assertion. Tarazona responded that it was her personal opinion and that the responsibility for clarifying the facts rests with the judicial authorities: "No, because I am saying it is an opinion, it is not an accusation. The accusation is made by the Public Prosecutor's Office."
When the journalist asked whether she would feel at ease if Petro ended up in prison over the case, the widow responded affirmatively: "But of course I would."
Public Prosecutor's Office refers copies to Supreme Court
The statements came after the Public Prosecutor's Office ordered copies to be referred to the Supreme Court of Justice, based on information provided by Tarazona about the alleged intellectual perpetrators of the crime. The decision was recorded in a communication dated 21 October 2026, signed by Deicy Jaramillo Rivera, delegate for Territorial Security, in response to an official letter sent two days earlier by the Justice Minister, Iván Cancino.
The document does not identify the persons subject to the referral nor establish criminal liability. The action seeks to have the high court examine information that could implicate former members of the House of Representatives linked with the Comunes party, which emerged following the demobilisation of the Farc. The Public Prosecutor's Office based its decision on articles 186 and 235 of the Political Constitution, related to the judicial treatment of fuero officials.
"In response to the facts reported by Mrs María Claudia Tarazona, on 20 October 2026 the referral of copies to the Supreme Court of Justice was ordered," the prosecuting body stated in the communication.
"Marcos Calarcá" and the alleged role of Venezuela
Tarazona also identified Luis Alberto Albán, known as "Marcos Calarcá", a former Farc member and member of the Comunes party, as one of the alleged intellectual determiners of the crime. To support her allegations, she made public a message which, according to her account, was received by a public official in April 2025, two months before the attack.
"That son of a bitch (sic) 'Marcos Calarcá' is organising eight gangsters called commandos to go and carry out the attack," the message disclosed by the widow said.
Tarazona also maintained that the resources to organise the plan would have come from Venezuela, that the order would have originated in Congress, and that members of the Second Marquetalia would have carried out the attack in the old El Golfito park in Bogotá. The Public Prosecutor's Office has not confirmed any of these claims.
Active investigation since June 2025
In its response to the Justice Ministry, the Public Prosecutor's Office noted that it incorporated the data provided by the murdered senator's wife and her victims' representative into investigative efforts. "The General Public Prosecutor's Office incorporates and works with the information provided by Mrs María Claudia Tarazona together with her victims' representation," the office stated.
Among the planned activities are verification of the data, sources, authenticity and origin of the communications, as well as analysis of possible relationships between the mentioned persons and the investigated facts.
The Sectional Directorate of Public Prosecutors' Offices in Bogotá formed a Special Task Force to investigate and prosecute the homicide of Uribe Turbay through Resolution 001683 of 19 June 2025.
