Anti-drug operation in Kennedy removes 700 kilograms of marijuana from the market
Bogotá police, through the Criminal Investigation Division, seized over 700 kilograms of marijuana in an operation carried out in the south of the city, according to pulzo.com. The shipment was travelling hidden in a stake-bed lorry that was being transported by a tow truck when it was intercepted by officers.
The seizure was made possible thanks to a citizen report that activated the authorities' response. During inspection of the vehicle, agents detected several packages whose smell and appearance allowed them to identify the presence of narcotics.
Initial investigations indicated that the drugs came from the department of Cauca and were destined for the Carvajal neighbourhood in the Kennedy district. There, according to the authorities, criminal organisations were planning to break down the substance and distribute it in different parts of Bogotá.
As part of the operation, the lorry driver, a woman, was arrested and handed over to the General Public Prosecutor's Office for the offence of trafficking, manufacture or possession of narcotics.
The District Secretariat for Security, Coexistence and Justice noted that the seizure represents a blow to the finances of the criminal structures involved: they were deprived of revenue exceeding 150 million pesos and the distribution of approximately 70,000 doses on the streets of the capital was prevented.
The authorities reiterated to the public the importance of reporting suspicious activities through the Emergency Line 123.
