Driver hit six pedestrians in Argaka, Paphos – among them a pregnant woman and children
Six pedestrians were injured on Saturday in Argaka when a car hit them. The 66-year-old driver was arrested after testing positive in a preliminary alcohol check.

Traffic accident in Argaka: six injured, including a pregnant woman and two minors
Six pedestrians were injured on Saturday afternoon in the community of Argaka, in Paphos district, when a car hit them shortly before 18:30. Among the injured are two minor children aged 5 and 7 years old, as well as a pregnant woman.
According to Politis, the vehicle was being driven by a 66-year-old man with a 56-year-old woman as passenger. The six pedestrians who were hit comprised two couples: the first aged 42 and 37 years old, together with their two children, and the second aged 65 and 64 years old. All six were transported by ambulance to hospital.
The 65-year-old and the 64-year-old remained at Paphos General Hospital for further observation. The 42-year-old father and the two children were discharged earlier. The 37-year-old woman, who is carrying her third child, was transferred to a private clinic for precautionary observation. According to the attending physicians, the condition of the three hospitalised patients is described as stable.
After hitting the pedestrians, the driver did not stop at the scene of the accident and continued driving. Approximately half a kilometre further on, his vehicle crashed into a concrete culvert and came to a stop.
In the preliminary alcohol check that was conducted, the driver registered a reading of 49 mg, whilst the permitted limit is 22 mg. In the final breathalyser test, however, it was not possible to obtain a satisfactory sample. A court arrest warrant was issued against him and he was taken into custody.
The Police are investigating, amongst other things, the offence of leaving the scene without providing assistance. The causes of the traffic accident are being investigated by Chrysochous City Police Station.
The six pedestrians were heading at that time to the Avocado Festival, which was taking place on Saturday in the community of Argaka.
