Four people were arrested in Larnaca following a complaint by an elderly man, who claims he fell victim to extortion, threats and money theft by a criminal group.

The arrested individuals are two businessmen aged 44 and 42, a 49-year-old man and a woman aged 45. The suspects were brought before Larnaca District Court under strict security measures, after police arrested them as part of an investigation into criminal organisation.

According to the complaint filed by the elderly man, the perpetrators extorted him over a prolonged period, obtaining large sums of money from him. The case includes allegations of shootings that occurred on 17 January, which are said to be connected to the group. The complainant also reported threats to his life and intimidation.

The 45-year-old woman is said to have posed as being in a romantic relationship with the elderly man in order to manipulate him and facilitate the theft of money. The other suspects are said to have had an organised role in the extortion operation.

The four arrested individuals face serious charges, including involvement in a criminal organisation, extortion, threats and obtaining property through deception. The court approved the police request for their detention.
