Man from D6 incident has conviction for pedestrian death

Deník.cz has reported that a 43-year-old man linked to a recent attack on a female driver on motorway D6 near Jesenice was previously convicted of a fatal traffic accident. The case was first revealed by iDnes.cz.

The fatal accident occurred on 29 June 2008 at a pedestrian crossing on K. H. Borovského Street in Sokolov. At the time, a 25-year-old driver of a Volkswagen Multivan struck a 60-year-old pedestrian shortly after 8:30 p.m. The woman did not survive her injuries.

According to a record in the judicial database InfoSoud, cited by Novinky.cz, the driver appeared before the District Court in Sokolov on 14 May 2009. The court found him guilty. The precise sentence does not appear in the released information.

Incident from 2022 back under investigation

In parallel, investigators have returned to an earlier case from October 2022. The man then repeatedly forced a Citroën Berlingo off its lane on motorway D6 near Sokolov, in which a driver, two adults and two children were travelling. After forcing the Citroën's occupants to stop in a hard shoulder, he allegedly attacked them aggressively and with vulgar language.

The case was treated as a misdemeanour at the time and dropped due to lack of evidence, according to CNN Prima NEWS. Following the recent D6 incident, however, investigators have initiated criminal proceedings on suspicion of extortion. Police are also working with the theory that the vehicle may have been used as a weapon.

Attack in front of eight-year-old daughter

The latest incident occurred in a section of the D6 motorway construction near Jesenice in the Rakovnicko district, where alternating speed limits of 50, 30 and 50 kilometres per hour were in place. The woman respected the traffic signs, which apparently infuriated the driver of the black SUV. He began flashing his lights and braking hard until both vehicles came to a stop on the busy motorway.

The SUV driver approached the woman's car, opened the door and struck her to the head and body. "He was suddenly in front of me. He was shouting and cursing at me," the attacked woman told tn.cz. She herself acknowledged that she had made a vulgar gesture to the aggressor before the attack.

Throughout the incident, the victim's eight-year-old daughter was sitting in the car. The woman told the aggressor that the situation was being recorded by a dashboard camera — which the girl was holding at that moment and managed to hide under the seat. The mother kept the recording and subsequently handed it to police.

Case returned to police

The man was informed of suspicion of assault in the attempt stage, disorderly conduct and theft in the attempt stage. He faces up to three years in prison.

However, the case did not enter accelerated preliminary proceedings as originally intended. The District State Prosecutor's Office in Rakovník returned the file to police with instructions to conduct further procedural measures due to objections to the legal qualification of the facts.
