Lorry driver with 2.6 per mille of alcohol in breath stopped by police on D1 near Vražného
Policie.gov.cz informs that traffic police from the highway unit Mankovice intervened at the end of October shortly before six o'clock in the morning, when the operations centre reported that an apparently intoxicated lorry driver was travelling along the D1 motorway in the direction of Poland. The alert came from another driver who reported the situation to the 158 emergency line.
It did not take the patrol long to spot the vehicle. The lorry with trailer was travelling in the Vražného area at times at only around 60 km/h and without any obvious reason was weaving between lanes or approaching the hard shoulder. Police officers stopped the vehicle safely.
Behind the wheel sat a forty-five-year-old man transporting granules. He was slurring his speech, swaying, and when attempting to climb into the cab to fetch documents, he noticeably lost his balance. A breathalyser test confirmed the suspicion: the device showed over 2.6 per mille of alcohol. The driver did not dispute the measured values.
According to his statement, he had departed from Germany and was merely passing through the Czech Republic with the cargo. He said he had drunk hard liquor during one of the safety breaks on the journey.
Police officers prohibited him from continuing to drive at the scene and confiscated his driving licence. In an expedited preliminary proceedings, he was informed of suspicion of the offence of endangerment under the influence of an addictive substance. For this criminal act, he faces imprisonment of up to one year, a monetary fine, or a driving ban.
