Accusations of a series of thefts in Karlovy Vary and surrounding area

Karlovy Vary detectives have initiated criminal prosecution of three people accused of the crime of theft, police.gov.cz announced. They are men aged 33 and 48 years old and a woman aged 30 years old. The 48-year-old man additionally faces an accusation of damage to another person's property.

According to investigators' findings, the 48-year-old man stole a key and chip from a letterbox at the main entrance of a house and apartment in Karlovy Vary. He passed these to the remaining two co-accused, saying they could enter the apartment. The 33-year-old man and 30-year-old woman broke into the apartment together, searched it and carried away electronics—including a gaming console and a coffee maker. The stolen items, including the key, were subsequently supposed to be returned to the 48-year-old man, who was to sell them further.

The 48-year-old man is said to have committed four further thefts himself. In the first half of June, he damaged the lock of a clothing shop and broke into it, stealing a rucksack, dozens of items of clothing and a mobile phone.

At the beginning of July, he damaged a bicycle carrier on a parked vehicle in Jáchymov and stole one bicycle. In Karlovy Vary, he targeted construction containers, from which he took a data cable and several metres of cable reels.

The last case also took place in Karlovy Vary, where the man again damaged a bicycle carrier on another parked vehicle and stole one bicycle.

The total damage to stolen and damaged property was provisionally estimated at approximately 280,000 crowns. If found guilty, the 48-year-old man faces a custodial sentence of up to five years. The 33-year-old man and 30-year-old woman face a sentence of up to two years.
