According to mittelhessen.de, the situation in Frankfurt am Main following Saturday evening's riots was under control by early morning, but the police operation continued. Officers secured shops that were looted during the unrest. A police spokesman explained that the damage was "considerable", but could not yet be quantified. The number of injured was initially unclear.

The rioters had stormed into the city centre following a demonstration, attacked police officers, smashed shop windows and stole goods. Police temporarily detained more than 30 people. A special operations unit (SEK) was also deployed. After cordoning off an area in the city centre, the situation calmed down by dawn.

Hesse's Minister President Boris Rhein (CDU) expressed shock to the German Press Agency over "the violent excesses in Frankfurt". He announced consequences: "Whoever behaves like the attackers in Frankfurt city centre places themselves outside our society." Interior Minister Roman Poseck (CDU) also announced a tough response against the rioters.
