Man with nine criminal records killed by DICRIM in Santiago

A man sentenced to 30 years' imprisonment and with an active arrest warrant died last Wednesday after allegedly exchanging gunfire with agents from the Regional Criminal Investigation Subdirectorate (DICRIM) in Santiago, according to listindiario.com.

The victim was identified as Christopher Eugenio Acevedo Metz, alias "La Rabia", 36 years old. Police records attributed nine entries to him for homicides, robberies, gunshot wounds, illegal weapons possession and armed robberies.

Authorities indicated that Acevedo Metz was wanted for his alleged participation in several violent acts, including the death of a National Police officer, armed assaults and attacks against citizens.

Six of his criminal records corresponded to incidents occurring between 2017 and 2021; the remaining three were related to cases registered in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

The Second Collegiate Court of the Criminal Chamber of the Court of First Instance of Santiago had sentenced him to 30 years' imprisonment on 23 February 2024, although the arrest warrant remained unexecuted at the time of his death.

Among the episodes attributed to him is his alleged participation in a contract armed attack against two men in Hato del Yaque in 2019, as well as several robberies in which victims were reportedly stripped of gold jewellery, cash and mobile phones.

Police records also linked him to an armed confrontation in the El Ejido sector, where Pablo de Jesús Polanco died.

An additional record dates from November 2019, when, during a police intervention in Gurabo, he allegedly attempted to snatch the regulation weapon from one of the agents participating in his arrest.
