Two men received sentences of 15 years in prison each for the deaths of two people in the sectors Cancino Adentro and Los Minas, in the municipality of Santo Domingo Este, the Public Ministry reported on Wednesday, according to diariolibre.com.
Case 1: knife attack in Cancino Adentro
Daury Henríquez Castro was found guilty of the death of Erick Ortiz Senatus, who received a stab wound with a bladed weapon in the left side on 11 October 2025, around 11:30 at night.
According to the Public Ministry's case file, Ortiz Senatus was at the home of a friend, where he had gone to purchase groceries, when Henríquez Castro arrived at the location and attacked him amid personal disputes between the two.
The First Panel Court of Santo Domingo Este handed down the sentence. The prosecution had requested 30 years in prison, but the court set the sentence at 15 years, which Henríquez Castro will serve at the Najayo Men's Correction and Rehabilitation Centre, in San Cristóbal.
Case 2: shooting in Los Minas leaves one dead
Alexander Mejía Mora, known as Alex, also identified as Livio Alexander Mejía Mora, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the death of Cristofer García, which occurred during a shooting in the Los Minas sector on 11 January 2024.
According to the Public Ministry's case file, Mejía Mora appeared at the location where his partner was socialising with other people and struck her. Following intervention by those present, he withdrew and returned minutes later armed and accompanied by two other men. The three, who were moving on two motorcycles, fired several shots; one of the projectiles struck García, who died from the injuries.
The Public Ministry had also requested a sentence of 30 years in this proceeding. The Second Panel Court of Santo Domingo Este sentenced Mejía Mora to 15 years and also ordered the payment of compensation of one million pesos to the relatives of the victim. The sentence will be served at the Las Parras Correction and Rehabilitation Centre, in the municipality of San Antonio de Guerra, province of Santo Domingo.
