Three captured and speedboat intercepted in trinational maritime operation
An international operation against drug trafficking resulted in the seizure of 555 kilograms of cocaine, the interception of a speedboat and the detention of three people, according to elpais.com.co. The procedure was carried out as part of the multinational operation called 'Zeus Guyana', with the participation of authorities from Colombia, the Dominican Republic and the United States.
President Abelardo De La Espriella announced the results through his social media, highlighting the role of the Colombian Air Force, which led the operation and provided its air surveillance and intelligence capabilities to locate the suspicious vessel and monitor its movements.
Based on that information, the Dominican Republic Navy intervened at sea and intercepted the speedboat. The procedure made it possible to secure the cocaine cargo and detain the three occupants of the vessel.
The presidential report did not specify the exact point of interception nor did it provide details about the identity or nationality of those captured. No information was disclosed about the intended destination of the seized cargo.
Statements from President De La Espriella
After announcing the results, the president stated that his Government would maintain operations against organisations engaged in drug trafficking, and reiterated that the actions of the authorities would extend through all possible routes.
"We pursue drug trafficking by land, sea and air! There will be no truce against crime!", De La Espriella expressed in his post.
The president also warned that criminal structures cannot consider borders or ocean routes as safe spaces to move illegal shipments. He noted that cooperation between countries is fundamental to detecting vessels used in these activities and closing them off.
"Let it be clear to narco-terrorists: there are no borders that will protect you nor oceans where you can hide!", he stated.
Joint strategy against drug trafficking
De La Espriella maintained that coordinated work with international allies will continue as part of the strategy to reduce drug trafficking, affect the finances of criminal networks and dismantle the organisations participating in the illegal business.
"We will continue working with our international allies to close the drug trafficking routes to them, strike their finances and dismantle the criminal organisations that seek to enrich themselves by poisoning the world", the president affirmed.
The results of Operation 'Zeus Guyana' were presented by the president as progress in joint actions against drug trafficking. The seizure of the 555 kilograms of cocaine and the three captures constitute the main results reported from the procedure.
