A man was taken into custody in Santiago de los Caballeros after being identified as the perpetrator of a robbery committed on Wednesday morning in the Gurabo area. During the operation, officers managed to seize a firearm and return to its owner a motorcycle along with a mobile telephone that had been taken from him.
According to information provided by the outlet De Último Minuto, the arrest was carried out by personnel from the Central Investigation Directorate (DICRIM), with support from the Preventative Police, in the Hoya de Caimito neighbourhood. The detainee was identified by the name Raimon Reyes Díaz, with the alias "Ray".
Officials stated that the accused snatched a pedestrian's motorcycle, his mobile device and several identity documents, threatening him with a pistol. Once the crime was completed, the victim went to police headquarters to file the corresponding complaint.
During the search, officers seized from the alleged offender the weapon with which he allegedly coerced the victim, as well as the stolen objects. Subsequent examinations confirmed that the motorcycle and the mobile device corresponded to those reported in the complaint.
The detainee and the evidence were sent to the prosecutor's office to proceed with criminal prosecution. The law enforcement institution continues investigating to determine whether the accused could be implicated in other robberies of similar characteristics committed in the jurisdiction.
