The leadership of the National Police confirmed that the officer involved in the death of a minor during an operation on Friday afternoon in La Cañada de Guajimía, Herrera, is now in the hands of the Public Ministry. Prosecutors took over direction of the investigation to determine how events occurred and who should be held accountable.
The force expressed categorical rejection of the officer's actions, stating that it was unacceptable conduct that violated the codes governing preventive work. It also made clear that it will not tolerate arbitrary or excessive use of coercive authority or actions that infringe on the rights of the population.
At the same time, the Central Office of Internal Affairs launched an investigation of an administrative nature to assess whether disciplinary measures are warranted. The institution extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and reiterated its willingness to cooperate with the Public Ministry throughout the process.
The incident has caused shock among residents of Herrera, who are demanding explanations about how a routine procedure ended with the life of a young man. To date, authorities have refrained from providing details about the circumstances of the incident and have not made public the identity of the officer in custody.
