Security personnel captured a person in Guayaquil from whom officers seized pistols, ammunition and drugs, as part of an intervention aimed at dismantling criminal groups, according to a report published by Primicias.
The uniformed officers are seeking to dismantle criminal networks that have been stockpiling weapons to carry out violent acts in the port city.
The media outlet also noted that days earlier, Darío Javier Peñafiel Nieto, nicknamed 'Topo', was extradited to the United States to face seven charges in the Eastern District of New York. Similarly, Celso Moreira Heredia, alias 'Patucho Celso', will be brought before the courts of the Southern District of that same American city.
On another front, in the northern border region of the country, military personnel found and deactivated illegal gold mining sites, and also dismantled gangs operating in those camps.
