Ecuador's Ministry of Defence announced on Friday 10 July 2026 the apprehension of alias "Gabo", identified as the second most wanted leader of the criminal organisation known as "Los Carniceros". The detention was carried out through a joint operation by the Security Bloc and the National Intelligence Centre, according to information released by the government ministry in an official statement.
The authorities identify the detainee as the suspected perpetrator of a wide range of serious crimes, including extortion, contract killings, kidnapping, trafficking in illicit substances and armed robbery. Additionally, he is directly linked to acts of extreme violence in the Las Malvinas sector, including selective homicides, dismemberment and forced disappearances.
