Officers from the National Drug Investigation Directorate carried out an operation on Thursday 2 July 2026 at courier company facilities in Guayaquil, where they intercepted three shipments that concealed drugs destined for Spain's capital.
The searches were conducted between 12:00 and 17:00. Agents found packages containing yellow folders with notebooks used for university studies. Upon examining the pages, they discovered sheets impregnated with cocaine hydrochloride.
Laboratory tests determined that the cargo totalled 796 grammes of the substance, a figure close to 8,000 individual doses. The planned route was Guayaquil-Madrid, a frequent tactic employed by drug trafficking networks to transport narcotics via postal services.
The authorities estimated that the haul would have a price of around 1,810 dollars in Ecuadorian territory, whereas in the European market its cost would exceed 37,000 dollars, revealing the enormous profit margin once the merchandise reaches the other side of the ocean.
The intervention was part of Operational Strategy 3D, designed to undermine, fragment and dismantle criminal groups engaged in the illicit trade of narcotics through intelligence work and profile analysis. The police institution carries out continuous inspections at logistics facilities and post offices to intercept adulterated shipments before they leave national territory.
