Legislator Liliana Elizabeth Durán Aguilar claims that the death of Monika Silva-Koniuszek in Ecuador was a homicide, not a suicide, and links the case to her investigations into corruption and "property mafias".

Liliana Elizabeth Durán Aguilar, parliamentarian of the Citizen Revolution Movement, stated in comments to Wirtualna Polska that the death of Polish activist Monika Silva-Koniuszek in Ecuador constituted a murder, ruling out the official version of suicide.
The body of the Polish citizen was found on 8 June at her residence in Montañita, Santa Elena province. Silva-Koniuszek directed the Integrity Foundation and was engaged in investigating alleged cases of corruption, including what is called "property fraud" — the illegal sale of public land by corrupt officials linked to drug trafficking.
According to the congresswoman, Interior Minister John Reimberg issued a statement classifying the incident as suicide just 24 hours after the body was found. Durán Aguilar contends that this hasty statement was intended to cover up a crime. The forensic reports, by contrast, would have ruled out the suicide hypothesis: the first autopsy revealed signs of violence, a blow to the occipital region and strangulation marks.
A second autopsy was performed by judicial experts and doctors from Guayaquil, with technical observers sent by Argentina's Supreme Court at the request of the European Union.
The legislator indicated that Silva-Koniuszek had filed multiple complaints with the Attorney General's Office and requested protection from the Interior Ministry from March onwards, after receiving threats. She had also approached the United States embassy in Quito and handed confidential documents to the DEA.
Durán Aguilar announced that she would request all documentation related to the investigations the Polish activist had begun from various state institutions, to prevent them from being filed away.
