Man shot dead outside Guayaquil Regional Prison five hours after gaining release
Kevin González was riddled with bullets by motorcyclists on Thursday 4 June on the road to Daule, just hours after regaining his freedom. A bystander was injured.
Shot dead upon leaving prison: five hours of freedom before the attack
Kevin Andrés González Nevárez was free for just five hours. According to extra.ec, the man left Guayaquil's Regional Prison at 15:00 on Thursday 4 June and was killed at 20:00 on the same day, on the road to Daule, north of the city.
González was waiting outside a commercial establishment located across from the prison itself, awaiting someone to take him to his home. At that point, two men on a motorcycle caught him by surprise and riddled him with bullets. The man fell to the ground in front of the establishment and died quickly.
The victim had a criminal record for robbery and unlawful trafficking of controlled substances, according to police information.
A woman in the vicinity was struck by a projectile in the neck. She had both entry and exit wounds and was taken to a health facility. The doctors who treated her anticipated discharging her in the following hours.
A relative of González appeared at the scene and confirmed to officers that the victim had been released that same day from a nearby prison. The National Police are conducting investigative operations to determine whether the crime was a settling of scores or motivated by other reasons.
