Ecuadorian agents discovered a cargo of drugs hidden in a fruit export container destined for Shanghai. One person was taken into custody.

Officers of the National Police seized 64 kilogrammes of cocaine hydrochloride during an operation carried out in Guayaquil, the institution reported on 5 July 2026. The substance was to be transported to China concealed within a shipment of bananas.

The operation, dubbed "Shanghai", took place in the Pascuales sector, north of the city. The officers found the drug in a secret compartment of a container loaded with fruit destined for the port of Shanghai.

The packages were covered with sheets of metal and grease, a method used to evade X-ray controls and canine tracking.

During the procedure, the authorities detained one individual and seized the vehicle that was transporting the container. The amount secured equates to approximately 64,000 doses, with an estimated value of 1.6 million dollars on the United States market, according to official calculations.
