Ecuadorian law enforcement detected a shipment of cocaine hydrochloride hidden in an export fruit container destined for Asia. One person was arrested.
64 kg of cocaine concealed in bananas intercepted in Guayaquil bound for China
Officers from Ecuador's National Police seized 64 kilogrammes of cocaine hydrochloride on 5 July 2026 during a raid conducted in the Pascuales sector, north of Guayaquil. The substance was concealed inside a container transporting bananas destined for the port of Shanghai, in China.
The operation, named "Shanghai", enabled authorities to discover that the drug had been placed in a secret cavity within the container. Those responsible had covered the narcotic with metal sheets and a layer of grease in an attempt to evade X-ray scanners and the sense of smell of narcotic-detection dogs.
During the intervention, police officers arrested one individual and seized the heavy vehicle that was transporting the cargo.
According to estimates from the police institution, the intercepted shipment represented some 64,000 doses, with a street value on the United States market of around 1.6 million dollars.
