Officers from Ecuador's anti-narcotics unit carried out a seizure on 2 July 2026 at parcel delivery companies in the city of Guayaquil. During the operation, they located three shipments that concealed a controlled substance within their contents destined for the Spanish capital.
The search was conducted during the afternoon, in the time period between noon and five o'clock in the evening. The uniformed officers examined yellow folders containing notebooks for academic use. Upon examining them, they detected sheets treated with cocaine hydrochloride inserted between the pages.
Laboratory analysis yielded a total weight of 796 grammes of the drug, a figure representing around eight thousand individual doses. Authorities estimated that on the Ecuadorian market, that merchandise would have a value close to two thousand dollars. However, upon crossing the Atlantic, its commercial value would multiply to exceed thirty-seven thousand dollars.
The discovery took place within the context of a security strategy aimed at dismantling gangs engaged in the illegal trafficking of controlled substances. Traffickers are increasingly employing sophisticated concealment methods to evade customs and logistics inspectors, taking advantage of the volume of international correspondence circulating daily.
Officials reaffirmed that they would continue with systematic inspections at shipping terminals, warehouses and sorting centres. The goal is to cut off the routes used by cartels to transfer their products abroad and to reduce the operational capacity of these organisations.
