Police operation in Guayaquil strikes eight criminal organisations
The National Police deployed Operation Apollo 20 in Zone 8 of Guayaquil on Friday 5 June 2026, according to elcomercio.com. The operation covered the districts of Pascuales, Modelo, Nueva Prosperina and Durán, and is part of the institution's strategies against criminal structures in the region.
General Walter Villarroel Trujillo, commander of Zone 8, indicated that the action sought to weaken organisations operating in the sector and benefiting from illicit economies. The interventions were concentrated in priority districts in the north of the area, including Durán.
In total, 29 interventions were carried out based on reports verified through a QR code. The actions affected eight criminal organisations: Latin King, Los Fredy Kruger, Los Águilas, Los Tiguerones, Los Lagartos, Mafia 18, Los Carniceros and Los Choneros. As a result, six people and two minors were arrested for their alleged participation in illicit activities.
One of the most significant seizures was fifty kilos of marijuana. A police convoy was deployed in an intervened area after receiving a report; a citizen who noticed the police presence attempted to flee and entered a residence. Upon entering the premises, officers found doses labelled for distribution on the streets of Guayaquil, belonging to the group Los Freddy Kruger.
In a separate incident, the Police thwarted an assault on a commercial establishment in the same sector, an establishment that had previously been the subject of a robbery in Quito. During that intervention, a citizen was arrested who was carrying a fake firearm.
