A police deployment in the districts of Florida, Pascuales, Nueva Prosperina, Modelo and Durán resulted in the arrest of 29 people, according to eluniverso.com. The operation, named Apollo 22, was designed to combat organised crime and strengthen public safety in Zone 8.
The National Police stated that those detained were suspected members of organised crime groups, including Latin King, Águilas, Tiguerones, Lobos, Lagartos, Mafia 18, Carniceros and Choneros. Of the 29 arrested, 27 are men and two are women; among them are two Colombian citizens, one Peruvian and one Venezuelan.
A total of 37 interventions were carried out, which directly affected the criminal economies of organisations engaged in drug trafficking, arms trafficking, extortion, kidnapping and crimes against property.
During the operation, fifteen people were arrested in a property located in the Multicomercio shopping centre. The police indicated that the premises had apparently functioned as an operations centre for the planning of mobile phone thefts and assaults on commercial establishments. Five of those detained have a criminal record for trafficking in controlled substances and robbery.
The general commander of the National Police, Pablo Dávila Maldonado, reported that one of those arrested was allegedly linked to a violent death recorded in the Cuba neighbourhood in the South District of Guayaquil. His identification was possible through analysis of images from the video surveillance system.
Among the evidence seized were nine firearms—seven pistols, one revolver and one shotgun—six magazines, 36 rounds of various calibres, 852 doses of controlled substances and 15 blocks of drugs. Four vehicles, 33 motorcycles and one motorcycle taxi were also detained and recovered, and twelve bladed weapons were seized.
