In the canton of Quevedo, located in the province of Los Ríos, authorities dismantled an organisation allegedly engaged in armed activities that, according to investigators, would have links with the gang known as Los Choneros. The operation, named Operation Orion, involved the participation of officers from the Judicial Police, the GOE, the Forensics unit and representatives of the State Attorney General's Office, coordinated by the Ministry of the Interior.

The intervention resulted in the arrest of half a dozen individuals who were already wanted by justice. Similarly, uniformed officers carried out searches in four residences as part of the procedure.

Among the objects seized were nearly a dozen mobile devices, as well as a car and a pair of motorcycles that were reportedly used by the alleged offenders.

Authorities indicated that the group would be behind multiple illicit activities that have alarmed the population of Los Ríos, including the formation of groups to commit crimes, unlawful deprivation of liberty for extortion purposes, illegal possession of firearms, intimidation of citizens and robberies using the method of forcible smartphone theft.
