Police operation in Quevedo dismantles armed gang linked to Los Choneros
A joint operation carried out in Quevedo canton, located in Los Ríos province, resulted in the capture of six men who allegedly formed part of an armed cell of the criminal group Los Choneros. The action, named Operation Orión, was executed by the Judicial Police with support from the GOE, Crime Scene Investigation and the General Prosecutor's Office, according to reports by the Interior Ministry.
The six detainees were apprehended through valid judicial orders. At the same time, law enforcement carried out four house searches in the area of influence of the gang.
Among the seized items are eleven mobile devices, one vehicle and two motorcycles that were placed under the custody of the authorities.
Preliminary investigations indicate that this criminal faction would have committed various crimes in the region, such as criminal association, kidnapping for extortion purposes, illegal possession of firearms, intimidation of the population and robberies using the "sacapintas" technique, creating insecurity among the residents of Los Ríos.
