The women, who turned out to be relatives of Carlos Alberto Suástegui Villanueva, were expressing their grief audibly. Between sobs, they repeated phrases of protest about what had happened, regardless of the presence of other passengers or media outlets covering the incident. Meanwhile, agents from investigative units were gathering evidence in the area to establish the circumstances of the crime.
The deceased, 39 years old, was known to authorities for his role at the head of Los Águilas, a criminal organisation with influence in El Triunfo. According to statements from Interior Minister John Reimberg, this man featured on the country's priority criminal targets list.
His track record in illicit activities was extensive. Records indicated four prior police records, three previous arrests, two episodes as an inmate and three ongoing investigations. The crimes attributed to him included links to criminal organisations since 2015, a murder case in 2019 and illegal possession of firearms in 2022. Additionally, judicial files showed a 2018 conviction and a case for driving under the influence in 2025.
The homicide occurred during peak hours at the terminal, causing alarm among those transiting through the location. Immediately, military and National Police personnel implemented security measures to control the situation and protect the facilities.
