Polish national with Interpol red alert detained in Santa Elena on suspicion of criminal links
In the early hours of 9 June 2026, security personnel raided a residence in the Montañita community in Santa Elena to execute the arrest of an individual sought internationally. The detainee, known as Tomasz Jakimiec, holds both the citizenship of his country of origin and Ecuadorian citizenship, the latter obtained through naturalisation.
The operation, dubbed "Warsaw", resulted in the detention of a subject listed in Interpol's database with a red alert for drug trafficking. The raided residence was equipped with high-tech security and monitoring systems.
The Interior Minister, John Reimberg, indicated on his digital profiles that this man would function as a point of connection between Albanian organised crime, irregular armed factions from neighbouring Colombia and local factions such as Los Lobos and Los Choneros.
Additionally, investigations suggest that he held a significant position within an illicit network that uses the country's port terminals to transport drug shipments to the European continent. This operation is part of the state's strategy against cross-border drug trafficking.
