Seville operation seizes military weapons linked to drug networks
Spain's National Police arrested three people in Seville province on suspicion of trafficking in military weapons, including an AK-47 assault rifle and an operational M80 anti-tank rocket launcher, according to pt.euronews.com.
The investigation began in June, when officers became aware of a possible network dedicated to the sale of military weapons. Initial inquiries identified several individuals residing in Dos Hermanas who allegedly functioned as intermediaries between weapons suppliers and potential buyers linked to drug trafficking.
One of the main suspects was responsible for facilitating contacts between the parties. According to the investigation, the price of an assault rifle on the illegal market could reach 6,000 euros per unit.
During a surveillance operation, officers detected two suspects driving a car. Upon noticing the police presence, the two fled and threw a bag into the street. Inside the bag were found the 7.62-millimetre calibre AK-47 and the 64-millimetre calibre M80 rocket launcher. Both occupants were detained at the scene.
Subsequently, a third arrest was made in connection with the mediation of the weapons. The operation also included four house searches—three in Dos Hermanas and one in Seville. The three detainees were brought before the Court of Instruction on duty in Dos Hermanas.
