Attack in Yvelines: suspect returns to custody
According to TF1 Info, Kevin T., 39, the suspected perpetrator of the Trappes attack that claimed the life of a young man of 26 on Friday, has resumed detention on Monday after two days at the psychiatric medical unit. The anti-terrorism public prosecutor, Olivier Christen, indicated that the suspect showed no direct signs of acute decompensation or hallucinatory activity.
Between Trappes and La Verrière, the attacker drove 12 kilometres, firing 128 rounds in a quarter of an hour with a pistol and a submachine gun. Four people were seriously wounded; three remained hospitalised on Monday evening, one of whom with their vital prognosis still at risk. The 11-year-old child struck eight times no longer presented a vital threat and was stable.
Kevin T. grew up and resides in Yvelines. He has a prior record of four convictions for offences dating from before 2012 but was unknown to intelligence services. Described as isolated and psychologically fragile, he attended various political movements in his youth before clearly positioning himself towards the far right and regularly making racist statements.
An investigation was opened for murder and attempted murder in connection with a terrorist undertaking on account of true or supposed membership of an alleged race, ethnicity or religion. At least four of the victims bear names of African or Maghrebi origin.
Kevin T. acknowledges the factual basis of the facts but contests their racist character. Investigators found in his apartment a copy of Mein Kampf, the Bible and the Quran. His detention can last until the night of Wednesday to Thursday.
