Drug trafficking on the A7
According to Actu17, a 23-year-old man was apprehended with 837 kg of cannabis resin in his vehicle at the Reventin-Vaugris toll booth on the A7 motorway in Isère. Customs officers spotted the vehicle shortly after midnight in the night of Monday to Tuesday as it was heading up the A7 from the south and subjected it to a check.
The drugs were packaged in so-called "Moroccan" suitcases. Once weighed, the goods reached 837 kg. The suspect was placed in police custody at the Lyon branch of the Anti-Narcotics Office (OFAST) on instruction from the Vienne public prosecutor's office; his custody has since been extended and may last up to 96 hours for drug trafficking matters.
Investigators are seeking to determine whether the vehicle was preceded by a scout car and are examining the young man's phones to find out whether the cargo was destined for the Lyon market or simply in regional transit.
