Funeral away from media attention

According to TF1 Info, the funeral of Pengo Bossio Wangi will take place on Saturday 7 November from 4pm to 5pm at the Guyancourt landscape cemetery in the Yvelines. The ceremony will be open to anyone wishing to pay their respects, but not to journalists or political officials. The victim's mother, Valérie Bossio, and her daughters Tiffany and Ritsia Brou indicated in a statement that they wished to "experience this time of mourning away from any media exposure and any exploitation".

Pengo Bossio Wangi, 26, practised mixed martial arts at Atch Academy in Aubervilliers. On 23 October, Kevin T. shot and killed him in Trappes during a racist attack that also wounded seven people, including an 11-year-old girl seriously injured in La Verrière.

Charged and placed in provisional detention on 29 October, the suspect admitted to specifically targeting people of Muslim, African or North African appearance. He had chosen Trappes which he considered to be "a den of Islamists", according to the national counter-terrorism prosecutor, Olivier Christen. Stickers glorifying the National Rally were also discovered at his home in Plaisir.

The Élysée is also preparing a national tribute to the victims of this attack, at a date still to be determined. The father of the young man killed, Bolema Bossio Wangi, had expressed the wish that this moment would be "an opportunity for genuine awareness-raising and a commitment against racism". His solicitor, Zineb Alami, emphasised that hatred is fuelled by far-right rhetoric, notably relayed by certain media outlets.
