Video reveals methodical preparation for arson attack at ex-partner's home

New details about the 46-year-old former Navy officer have come to light, according to a report by the Live News programme broadcast by Ta Nea. The suspect is already in pre-trial detention following a unanimous decision by the investigating magistrate and prosecutor, facing charges relating to a series of arson attacks against three ex-partners.

Central to the case is video evidence recorded on 28 October 2026, two days before the fire at the flat of his 36-year-old ex-partner in Glyfada. In the footage, the 46-year-old is seen to have conducted a "full-dress rehearsal": he set fire to a paper napkin near the smoke detector in order to establish how the fire safety system functioned.

In the video from the stairwell of the apartment building, an alarm can be heard sounding, whilst the 46-year-old is seen calmly descending the stairs, feigning innocence. Meanwhile, the 36-year-old's father — who lives on the lower floor — appears, and her sister is seen hurrying down the stairs in a state of panic seconds later.

It is noted that the 36-year-old had requested an end to the relationship, however the suspect remained in her flat until he found accommodation of his own. According to the programme, the 46-year-old is alleged to have methodically organised his movements, having previously surveilled the premises and studied the conditions. The video supports the authorities' assessment that his actions were part of an organised plan of arson attacks.
